- Open space to swing it safely

What to do
- Hold the string and gently swing the ball around in a circle above the ground.
- Notice: your hand never touches the ball, but the string's pull keeps it circling you.

It's an ordinary star, a middle-aged one, calmly fusing hydrogen into helium in its core and releasing the energy that lights and warms our world. It has billions of years of stable life still ahead.
Even light takes time to cross that distance: sunlight needs about eight minutes to reach Earth. So you always see the sun as it was eight minutes ago, its warmth on your window is a message sent across space and just now arriving.

What to do
- Swing the weight in a horizontal circle at a steady speed, the string is 'gravity' holding it in orbit.
- Shorten the string and swing again, notice it circles faster (closer 'planets' orbit quicker).
- Let the string go slack for an instant, the weight flies off straight, showing that without the pull, orbit ends.
- Reflect: the sun's gravity is the unseen 'string' keeping every planet curving around it.
