On this night in science
A lander that listened to Mars
November 26, 2018
On this day in 2018, a lander called InSight touched down on Mars. A few weeks later, it set a very sensitive instrument on the ground beside it, to feel the tiny trembles that travel through the planet.
Why it mattered
InSight felt more than a thousand marsquakes, and they helped scientists work out what the inside of Mars is like, all the way down to its core.
Wonder together
If you lay with your ear to the ground and listened very carefully, what do you think you might hear?
