The Bedtime Scientist

A question

Why are sunsets blue on Mars?

A calm, true answer. Then, if the wondering keeps going, the whole episode.

The short answer

Because of the dust. The air on Mars is full of very fine dust, and it sends blue light onward toward you, so a cool blue glow gathers close to the setting sun.

The same Sun makes an orange sunset here, because our air is different. On Mars the colours swap around: a butterscotch sky by day, and blue around the Sun at the end of it.
