A question
How are rainbows made?
A calm, true answer. Then, if the wondering keeps going, the whole episode.
The short answer
Sunlight bending inside raindrops. White light is every colour together, and each colour bends by a slightly different amount as it enters a drop, reflects off the back and comes out again.
That spreads the light into a band, always in the same order, red on the outside. And because it depends on the angle between the sun, the drops and your eyes, no two people ever see quite the same rainbow. Yours is made of light aimed at you alone.
